A Christmas greeting from Aurora Innovation and our CEO, Jonas Ahlkvist

As we approach the end of the year, it is natural to pause, reflect, and consider what we will carry with us into 2026. The past year has offered both important insights and clear reminders of why our mission—enabling smart healthcare for everyone—is more relevant than ever.

Digital accessibility at the center of the debate

This year, the Internet Foundation’s report Swedes and the Internet 2025 highlighted that nearly one in four Swedes has refrained from booking a doctor’s appointment because digital services are too difficult to use. Many were surprised to see that this affected both younger and older generations.

The report also showed that 13 percent feel that healthcare apps complicate their ability to contact care providers—especially when they want advice before making a booking. This is not unique for Sweden. The same trend can be seen across Europe.

For us at Aurora Innovation, this reinforces something we strongly believe:

Digital accessibility requires ease of use. For patients. For healthcare professionals. For everyone.

The discussion was further fueled by the Swedish Association of Health Professionals’ report “Den dumma digitaliseringen” (The Dumb Digitalization), which highlighted, among other things, that nurses may have to manage up to 30 different IT systems daily. This is yet another sign of overly complex digitalization—leading to more administration and less time for patients.

Behind these statistics are healthcare workers who need simpler solutions, and patients who are asking for more accessible care. At Aurora Innovation, we know this is possible, and we are committed to supporting healthcare with these exact challenges.

Technical solutions for healthcare

Smart digital development is a vital part of our work. This year, we have seen several inspiring examples among our customers using Aurora teleQ.

Region Västerbotten standardized the use of Aurora teleQ across the entire region, which improved communication between patients and healthcare—and provided a calmer working environment for healthcare staff.

In Finland, Mehiläinen gained better conditions for managing patient calls. Aurora teleQ helped them reduce response times, create a calmer workday, and improve the care experience.

In the Netherlands, Cindy Hurkmans, a doctor’s assistant working across various primary care centers, shared how Aurora teleQ makes a significant difference in her work environment. She notes that teleQ creates a calmer setting and increases patient satisfaction, as they can choose when they want to be called back. This reduces stress in clinics—and as a substitute nurse, she can even work efficiently from home.

Human-centered development

We work closely with our customers and users to develop Aurora teleQ features that truly support their daily work and meet patients’ needs. In 2025, we were proud to introduce several improvements, including Transcribe and File Sharing.

Transcribe automatically converts voice messages into clear, easy-to-read text, enabling healthcare professionals to gain a quick overview and save valuable time. Transcribe is handled securely, encrypted, and within teleQ’s protected environment.

File Sharing enables staff and patients to share images, videos, and documents directly during a call—without needing an additional system. This ensures faster, safer, and more accessible care when in-person visits aren’t possible.

These features mark important steps toward making the digital side of healthcare simpler and more accessible.

2026 – When people lead digitalization

This year’s discussions have made one thing clear: digital tools must not act as a barrier. When e-services are difficult to understand, people refrain from seeking care. It has become clear that human needs must guide technical development.

In 2026, we will continue to:

  • Simplify patient communication
  • Listen closely to the challenges of healthcare staff and patients
  • Develop services that truly free up time—without compromising quality or safety

Thank you for this year

I want to express my warm gratitude to everyone who works in healthcare. We are proud to support you in your daily work. I also want to thank all our dedicated employees. You make a difference—every day.

I wish you all a peaceful, relaxing, and wonderful holiday season. We look forward to 2026 and all the opportunities it brings.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year,
Jonas Ahlkvist, CEO, Aurora Innovation
