Aurora Innovation’s CIO: “Now we’re taking the next step”
Aurora teleQ can now are developing, testing and launching test, develop and launch new features faster than before. Through a flexible architecture that combines local data centers with modern cloud services, Aurora Innovation can always choose the solution that best meets the needs of a specific customer or market. “The result is a future-proof contact platform that evolves at the same pace as healthcare’s and society’s need for digital services,” says Per Thorsélius, CIO at Aurora Innovation.
Aurora teleQ brings all patient communication together in one place – regardless of whether contact is made by phone, chat, web or video. Features such as AI transcription, reporting and smart integrations with medical record systems make everyday life easier for both healthcare providers and patients.
To develop the features, the development team at Aurora Innovation works closely with healthcare, ensuring that solutions meet their real needs.
“It is very important that all development of new features is based on a genuine need in healthcare. That’s why we go out and meet healthcare staff, immerse ourselves in their challenges and identify opportunities for improvement that we then explore and develop in our product development teams,” says Per.
Aurora Innovation ensures that knowledge of healthcare and operational needs is combined with the expertise of technology specialists in digitalization and AI.
“That’s how we can create the best possible solution for our customers. It might be minor improvements to the product’s design or entirely new features such as AI-based transcription or file sharing,” says Per.
A fast and secure operating environment
Today, as innovation and technological development accelerate, a stable, secure and predictable operating environment is essential. The demands for secure operations and rapid updates are higher than ever. Product development must rest on a robust infrastructure while maintaining flexibility.
“We ensure that teleQ is operated in a way that enables both secure delivery and rapid development,” says Per. “We don’t rely solely on physical data centers, but also on a secure cloud solution tailored for healthcare. Our customers can feel confident that Aurora teleQ always works, that their data is secure, and that software development happens without friction.”
High security requirements
The uncertain global situation has sparked debate around international cloud services. How secure is a cloud solution, and is there a risk of becoming dependent on an international provider? To offer effective solutions that meet high security requirements and the high availability that healthcare demands, Aurora Innovation works closely with its customers and suppliers.
“Important questions are being raised around security and international providers. Aurora Innovation can today deliver services from local data centers or from Azure, depending on requirements and regulations. Each environment is clearly separated, providing both robustness, independence and full control.”
By also leveraging cloud services, Aurora Innovation can continue to stay at the forefront with a high pace of innovation and use the solutions and models that are best suited to the business today. Cloud based platform services such as Azure make it possible to keep pace with development while maintaining a high level of security.
“Providers like Microsoft are far ahead and can have unmatched resources that local players struggle to compete with. By being able to work through both cloud services and data centers, we are in a favorable position. We have a proven local delivery as our foundation, which provides security for us and our customers if cloud-based delivery were to stop working for any reason. We have stronger resilience and can handle outages, attacks and disruptions much more smoothly.”
A faster path from idea to feature
The hybrid strategy combining data centers and cloud services strengthens both operational stability and delivery capability. For several years, Aurora Innovation has been releasing smaller updates to teleQ ´ every two weeks – updates that don’t disturb the users. These frequent updates deliver faster customer value and reduced risk compared to larger releases.
“Instead of one update per quarter, we can now make frequent, small updates that users don’t even notice. This allows us to launch more features, faster and with less risk” says Per.
The hybrid solution also provides flexibility and more cost-effective use of resources.
“Used correctly, we can create even greater value for our customers while ensuring long-term security and availability.”
The result is a future-proof contact platform that evolves at the same pace as healthcare’s and society’s digital needs.
“We can maximize security and compliance while creating room for innovation, scalability and a high development pace when possible.”
The work to further develop Aurora teleQ continues, with the goal of giving healthcare providers the best possible conditions to do their job.
“At Aurora Innovation, we don’t lock ourselves into one solution, we adapt as opportunities change.”
