Meet Kristina: Product Manager at Aurora Innovation

“I get to make a difference in the reality of healthcare”

“We make a difference in healthcare. For me, it’s important to work with something close to the heart,” says Kristina Larsson, developer and Product Manager at Aurora Innovation.

Kristina began her career at Aurora Innovation 10 years ago. She started as a developer, moved into the role of Product Owner, and today works as a Product Manager.

“I’ve always enjoyed working with usability and team leadership. I guide the development team and stay close to users to make the features in Aurora teleQ as useful as possible.”

Previously, Kristina worked in system development and programming. She knows that in some organizations, developers are forced to guess their way toward solutions. At Aurora Innovation, user needs are the starting point for all development.

“A big part of my work involves customer interaction. I sit next to nurses and observe how they work on a daily basis. I listen to what they actually need and identify the challenges they face. Then I collaborate with the product managers to decide what should be prioritized going forward.”

To make solutions as accurate as possible, Kristina and the team run pilots that are first tested on a smaller scale. Feedback is then collected and used as a foundation for further development.

“It’s about giving real users the support they need. At the same time, solutions must also be clear to decision-makers. They often lack hands-on experience with the systems nurses use, and therefore don’t always have full insight into the challenges healthcare staff face in their daily work. By understanding these needs, we can build products that truly make a difference.”

Addressing healthcare challenges

One major challenge for today’s healthcare professionals is working across multiple IT systems at the same time, which is both time-consuming and inefficient. It slows down administrative work and makes processes more vulnerable. At Aurora Innovation, Kristina and her colleagues actively work to solve this by developing smoother integrations between systems. The latest example is Aurora teleQ’s integration with COSMIC, one of Sweden’s most widely used electronic health record systems.

“This integration has been requested for a long time, and it makes a big difference for healthcare staff. They only need to log into one system. It eliminates manual copying of information between systems and reduces the risk of human error.”

Within COSMIC, healthcare professionals have access to all relevant patient information, while Aurora teleQ makes it easy to book appointments and manage patient communication.

“This solution is a good example of how we close gaps that previously caused frustration and unnecessary issues during the workday.”

Passionate about making a difference

Supporting healthcare professionals and making their everyday work easier is something Kristina is deeply passionate about.

“I truly feel that I make a difference through the products we create. It feels amazing to know they make a difference in the reality of healthcare.”

The solutions strengthen patient safety, improve efficiency, and enhance patient communication. And she never gets bored at work.

“There’s always something to do, and we have fun together. We collaborate well across teams, which is essential for continuously improving the product.”
