About the projects and how to apply

The master thesis project will be done in Auroras office central Uppsala. We look for one or two students to complete the project together. Aurora will have a project supervisor ready for you. These projects require a basic knowledge of programming. Our products are written mostly in Java, but these projects are not limited to that.

Investigation and development of text-to-speech and speech-to-text in our products

In this project you will investigate the current state of text-to-speech (TTS) and speech-to-text (STT), along with potential integrations of such tools into Auroras products. Implementations of TTS might include generating automatic dialog messages according to pre-defined texts, today a very time-consuming task. Implementations of STT might include real-time language transcription or post-call transcription of recorded messages. The project will include a pre-study investigating the current state of TTS and STT, a requirement analysis of possible implementations and development of some demo applications.

Investigation of dialog flow with webform input

During spring 2018 a master thesis student developed a new mobile web form used as a complement to Auroras teleQs callback service. This service is aimed towards users to take control over their reserved errands, extending our service to users wanting to change a scheduled time, include pictures, changing times, get parking information etc. The web form is still not implemented in teleQ, so this will be the first part of this project. Investigation in human-computer-interaction can be used to optimize and study the flow of errands through this system. Further development using Rich Communication Services (RCS) will be interesting to look at.

Building a demo application for voice driven automatic telephone bookings with Siri or Google Voice Assistant

Smartphones are becoming smarter every day, with an increasing number of applications and services available. One of these features is the smart speech recognition used in Siri and Google Voice Assistant, connecting the user to various external services. This project will investigate the possibility to utilize Siri or Google Voice Assistant to make automatic bookings at a user’s closest healthcare center. Many of Auroras clients operate in Swedish and European healthcare, and Aurora provide services to increase their availability. The project will include setting up a demo and investigating technical possibilities and limitations.

Usage of WebRTC in Aurora teleQ

The main channel to contact health care today is still via telephones, where Aurora teleQ supports various options of IP-telephone solutions. Web Real-Time Communications (WebRTC) is a new framework that provides high quality communication tools for web services and using this framework could improve both quality and availability for Auroras clients. This project will investigate how WebRTC can be used in Aurora teleQ. Can we embed speech / video in WebRTC web interface? How can we use the WebRTC support found in the Asterisk software switch? The project will include setting up a demo and investigating technical possibilities and limitations.
